Dr. Raquel Battle is a passionate and driven professional with a diverse background spanning roles in both the healthcare and education sectors. Her extensive track record of success building, training, and optimizing the performance of various teams executing vital healthcare programs and services in the fight against cancer is exemplary. Dr. Battle is the Founder of BlissfulSage Foundation, the first hospice service organization for cancer patients, and other terminally ill patients in Southern Belize. She has been an exemplary leader with extensive experience in special education, supporting students with disabilities in achieving quality of life and developing critical academic and life skills in both North Carolina and Virginia for more than ten years.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the Sewanee-the University of the South in 1999, Dr. Battle worked as an Educator and a Behavior Specialist in the Public Schools of North Carolina. Upon obtaining her Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education graduating, Summa Cum Laude, from North Carolina Central University in 2003. Upon completion of her Master's degree, Battle served as Diversity Coordinator and Academic Advisor in the School of Education at NCCU, as well as, Adjunct Instructor in the University College teaching courses in exceptionalities and cultural diversity.

BlissfulSage Foundation is the first Hospice Service organization for cancer patients and other terminally ill patients in Southern Belize. She has been an exemplary leader with extensive experience in special education, supporting students with disabilities in achieving quality of life and developing critical academic and life skills in both North Carolina and Virginia for more than ten years. Dr. Battle’s strong research background having played a key role in gathering the data which formed the first reliable data set to establish a cancer registry in Belize.

Upon receiving her B.A. degree in Psychology from Sewanee, the University of the South in 1999, Dr. Battle worked as an Educator, and a Behavior Specialist in the Public Schools of North Carolina. Upon obtaining her M.A.T in Special Education graduating, Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina Central University in 2003, she was hired to work in the School of Education as a Diversity Coordinator, Academic Advisor, and international program director for pre-service teachers. She taught undergraduate courses in Exceptionalities and Cultural Diversity at the University College at NCCU. For more than 20 years, she has served as a dedicated Educator, non-profit leader, End-of-Life Doula, and family caregiver with a deep commitment to her Birth Country of Belize. Battle earned her Ph.d. In Healthcare Administration from Walden University. Dr. Battle is currently the President of BlissfulSage Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 charity organization she founded in 2009 in the United States and established as a non-profit organization in Belize in 2010. She is the Founder of the Battle Cancer live and Virtual 5 Mile Run/Walk in Belize dedicated to her later father Mr. Edlin Leslie sr. and is CEO of Ubuntu Wellness Education Institute LLC. (UWEI) an educational platform dedicated to supporting caregivers and doctoral students pursuing degrees in health and social sciences, with an emphasis on time management, self- care, and general wellness. Dr. Battle is also the founder of Belize in You Marine Skin and body care, developed with intention to support small farmers and the ongoing work of Blissfulsage Foundation. She has previously served as a special education teacher in Fairfax County Virginia, and Development Officer at the Association for MetroArea Autistic Children. Dr. Battle currently serves as a Program Manager at the Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/ Biotechnology Research Institute/Research Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities at North Carolina Central University. Her passion and dedication to supporting and participating in closing the gap through ground-breaking research impacting minority populations is the driving force behind Battle’s current role as Program Manager at BBRI/RCMI.

Dr. Battle, through the work of Blissfulsage Foundation, has dedicated the past thirteen years to providing hospice education and hospice services to her village and neighboring communities. Supporting patients and their families by providing durable medical equipment, incontinent supplies, nutritional supplements, basic hygiene needs, and nominal financial support are a few ways in which BlissfulSage Foundation has made an impact. Amid the Pandemic in April 2020, Battle, through her organization has embarked on a hospice building project which has been ten years in the making- Building the first residential Hospice home in Placencia Village, Belize dedicated to her dad, who lost his battle with prostate cancer in 2007.
